CANACONA: Irked at the frequent and erratic power failures, residents complains to the Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker of the pathetic condition of Power supply in Canacona taluka.
“Without any ‘let-up’ to the unfathomable power fiasco, the entire Canacona taluka is plummeting into darkness more frequently and more erratically during the entire monsoon months and continues till now. Sometimes, the frequency is such that on an average more than 5 times a day, blackouts are happening on any single day”, states a resident Kisan Dessai.
“This affects the entire electrical equipment’s in the household at one point and disturbs peace of the residents and creates havoc with the business community|, informed Caitano Fernandes of Agonda.
“Whenever, one approaches or dials the local electricity department’s complaint number one gets frustrated on hearing the only stereotyped response, ‘Direct light Gelya,” says Samrat Bhagat.
Incidentally, following the fifth (5th) blackout of the day on Wednesday night, an irate Samrat Sharad Bhagat, a resident of Char-rasta area, penned down a public letter (social platform) to The Goa Legislative Assembly (GLA) Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, who is also the Canacona MLA, informing about the pathetic condition of the Electricity Department’s Service to the Canacona constituency.
“Almost 5 times in a day the entire Canacona Taluka is plummeted into a Blackout which we are forced to adopt in 24 hours. However, whenever we called the landline of the Electricity Department their response is “Direct Light Gelya” Respected Sir, I want to drive your attention towards the basic needs of the Citizens”, Bhagat wrote.
Responding to the public complaint, Canacona Electricity Department’s Assistant Engineer Govind Bhat informed, that the situations arises because of overhead network line from Cuncolim to Canacona (passing through dense Karmalghat forests) which is prone to snapping of conductor/falling of trees amongst other exigencies.
‘The Speaker had already taken up this issue and work of conversion of 33KV double Circuit line from 330KV Cuncolim Sub-Station to Canacona Sub-Station is already tendered’, informed AE Bhat.
Explaining the situation in detail , Bhat stating the Canacona Sub-Station is drawing power from Cuncolim Sub-Station, informed that there are three overhead circuits runs from Cuncolim to Canacona through dense forest of Karmalghat.Total load of Canacona constituency is distributed on these three circuits.
‘Today especially, there occured snapping of overhead conductor at cuncolim industrial estate.Hence we need to make change over of load on another circuits which gives interruption which is unavoidable .In this case we need to put off one circuit and shift the load on another so as to maintain power supply to the entire constituency. The overhead network is prone to snapping of conductor/falling of trees etc
