Canacona: Canacona Police have swiftly apprehended the accused involved in the assault on a lady tourist from the Czech Republic at Agonda Beach, sending a strong message that crimes against tourists will not be tolerated in Goa.
The incident occurred on 09/02/2026 at around 10:15 hours at Agonda Cliff, Agonda Beach, where an unknown person picked up an argument with the tourist and assaulted her with blows and a stone, causing grievous injuries. A complaint in this regard was registered at Canacona Police Station on 10/02/2026, following which an offence under Section 117(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered.
At the time of the incident, the identity of the accused was unknown and only a faint description was provided by the victim. Despite limited initial inputs, the Canacona Police Station team, led by PI Shri Praveen Gawas and working under the supervision of SDPO Shri Nilesh Rane, immediately launched an intensive investigation. The team gathered field intelligence, carefully examined available CCTV footage, and tracked the suspect’s movements with precision.
Based on sustained efforts and technical analysis, the police successfully identified and apprehended the accused Rohan Velip (22 years), resident of Benordem, Balli, Goa. During interrogation, the accused admitted to his involvement in the crime. Further investigation is in progress.
The quick and effective action by Canacona Police once again highlights the commitment of Goa Police to the safety of tourists and readiness to act decisively against anyone attempting to disturb public peace or the State’s reputation as a safe destination.
