MARGAO: Canacona Sports and Cultural Club entered the semifinal of the All Goa Navelim Villagers Union trophy by defeating Guardian Angel SC 2-0 organised by the Navelim Villagers Union and played at Rosary Church ground Navelim on Monday.
As the referee blew the whistle to start to play Canacona started attacking and scored the first goal in the 2nd minute of play through the striker Chaitan Komarpant then Guardian Angel created a counterattack in the 5th minute of play and Visiton Fernandes was well-fed by Godwin Fernandes but the move was thwarted by Canacona defence
Then the goalkeeper of Canacona sent a long ranger shoot which was cleared by the Guardian Angel defender with a header but the ball landed in front of Canacona Terrance who gave a cross pass to Ronald Oliveira but he misjudged and scoring opportunities wasted. And at the breather, Canacona were leading by 1-0.
After the resumption of second half Guardian Angel SC curchorem regrouped quickly to change the game plan and created many chances through their combination of Visiton Fernandes, Godwin Fernandes and Ivo Costa in the third quarter of the game but couldn’t find the equaliser. On the other hand, Canacona wasted many chances to increase the tally but either shot out of target or over the crossbar.
As the game progressed in the last quarter, Guardian Angel SC curchorem made three substitutions but luck didn’t favour them and in the 51st minute of play Chaitan Komarpant scored his brace which was well fed by Terrance, he beat the defence and goalkeeper and placed the ball in the net.
In the dying minutes of the game, Terrance Lobo took the ball from the centre and ran down and beat the defence and it was only the goalkeeper at his mercy but he shot out of target.
Chaitan Komarpant of Canacona Sports and Cultural Club was adjudged as Man of the Match for his outstanding performance and for scoring two goals by Eng. Bonny Carvalho of Navelim Villagers Union.
