CANACONA: Stating that drunk driving/riding will invite penal action under IPC, Canacona (Traffic) police arrest two riders and impounds their bikes for rash and negligent driving, risking themselves and public lives.
Following a series of accidents that snubbed four lives, including two policemen on election duty and another couple within 24 hours in Salcette, Canacona (Traffic) Police has pulled its strings to crack on waywardness by motorists in Canacona.
According to Canacona (Traffic) Police Inspector Vinayak Patil, police have taken up special drives to checkmate riding/driving without helmets and under the influence of Alcohol on Canacona Roads.
“In view of fatalities reported in the recent past, due to rash and negligent driving under the influence of alcohol, Canacona Traffic Police commenced driving against drivers/riders driving vehicles under the influence of alcohol, endangering human life and safety and also drive against riders of two-wheelers not wearing helmets,” he said.
He added, “We have found two riders under the influence of alcohol when intercepted, and both are booked under provisions of M. V Act and IPC as a deterrent to others of repercussions effect on drivers/riders driving/riding vehicles under the influence of alcohol”.
Interestingly, Canacona Traffic police have lodged an FIR at Canacona Police station under Sec. 185 M.V. Act and Sec. 279, 336 IPC for rash and negligent riding under the influence of alcohol on public road endangering human life/safety.
‘Riders has been arrested, and vehicles involved in the crime are impounded’, informed Patil.
Patil further informed that a total of 331 cases have been booked against the riders for not wearing a helmet this year by Traffic Cell, Canacona.
Patil further informed that driving under the influence of alcohol is made more stringent with fines of Rs.2000/- under MV Act and slapping/registration of FIR under IPC sections 279 and 336.
