SANGUEM: In a significant health initiative, the 10th #CancerScreeningAbhiyan conducted at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Sanguem, Goa, has provided valuable insights into the health of the local residents. This comprehensive screening program, overseen by Goa’s Health Minister, Vishwajit Rane, underscores the importance of early detection in cancer prevention.
During the screening, a total of 198 individuals, including 136 females and 62 males, underwent various medical examinations.
The results revealed several critical health issues, highlighting the necessity of such initiatives. A suspected case of liver cancer was identified, along with several benign breast tumours.
These findings emphasize the critical role of early detection in managing and treating cancer effectively.
The Goa Dental College also received referrals for multiple pre-cancerous lesions, which were detected during the oral health assessments.
Several treatments were successfully administered for these lesions, and one case of lower lip cancer was identified. This underscores the ongoing need for awareness and preventive measures in cancer screening initiatives.
The #CancerScreeningAbhiyan is part of a broader effort by the Goa Health Department to enhance public health outcomes through proactive screening and early intervention.
Such programs are crucial in rural areas where access to specialized healthcare services may be limited. By conducting regular screenings, the department aims to reduce the incidence of late-stage cancer diagnoses, which are often more challenging to treat.
