VASCO: In yet another incident, a Toyota Fortuner car (TS 08 FK 9786) driven by Telangana tourists got stranded at Bogmalo beach on Tuesday afternoon
The incident irked the panch members and locals, both of who demanded stringent action on the tourists who attempted to drive a car on the beach packed with tourists.
Based on the complaint, the Vasco police registered an offence against the tourists.
The Car driven by the Telangana tourists also had an MLA Sticker on the Car, which many claimed to be fake and which was removed by the occupants immediately after the media reached the site.
Sources also added that the tourist initially claimed that the Car belonged to a Hyderbad MLA, and we’re seen arguing with the panch members that there were no signboards on the beach indicating that cars cannot be driven on the beach but however, after a large number of locals joined the panch members, the tourists immediately removed the MLA sticker and mellowed down seeking an apology.
The Vasco police arrived on the site and even registered an offence in the incident based on a complaint by Bogmalo Sarpanch Sankalp Mahale.
Speaking to the media Bogmalo, Sarpanch Sankalp Mahale demanded stringent actions against the tourists to have attempted to drive on the beach.
“The locals informed about the car being driven on the beach, and we reached the site. The tourist initially showed us the MLA Sticker on the Car and said that it belonged to Hyderabad MLA Varad Ram Krishna Rao, but when we informed that we would take action, they immediately removed the MLA sticker,” he said.
He added that the tourists claimed that there was no board preventing cars on the beach, but such incidents should not happen on any beaches in Goa, and we have called the police to take action on this incident because cars are not allowed on the beach.
“The police must arrest these tourists and challan these people so that a precedent is set that cars will not be allowed on any beaches in Goa. The authorities must take cognizance of this incident and initiate strict action so that there is a sense of discipline on tourists visiting Goa, especially the ones who commit mistakes and argue with locals while flashing political connections in their states,” said Mahale.
PSI Ganesh Matondkar of the Vasco police station is carrying out further investigation under the supervision of PI Kapil Nayak and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Salim Shaikh
