PANAJI: Panaji Police have booked a car driver for rash and negligent driving after a head-on collision at KTC Circle near the New Mandovi Bridge left two persons injured on September 5.
According to police, the accused, identified as Valmiki C. Phineiro (46), a resident of Camurlim, Loutolim in Salcete, was driving his Volkswagen Polo (GA-08-F-8088) uninsured and without a valid licence. He allegedly drove from the New Mandovi Bridge towards Panaji city through the wrong side and at around 7:20 pm hit head-on a Yamaha Fascino scooter (GA-03-AH-2665) coming from the opposite direction.
The scooter rider, Arnold D’Costa (31), originally from Mumbai and currently residing at Khorlim, Mapusa, sustained grievous injuries and is undergoing treatment at Galaxy Hospital, Mapusa. The pillion rider, Cinica Pinto (26) of Quepem, also suffered injuries in the accident.
Police further stated that the accused failed to provide medical attention to the victims and did not report the accident to authorities. The case has been registered based on the complaint of Head Constable Anil G. Kurtikar of Panaji Police Station, and further investigations are underway.
