MAPUSA: A scooter rider sustained grievous injuries after being knocked down by a car near Bodgeshwar temple at Mapusa late on Sunday night.
According to Mapusa Police, the incident occurred on September 29 at around 11.15 pm when accused Joel Rodrigues, 40, a resident of Taleigao, was driving his car (GA-07-K-6888) from Mapusa towards Guirim on a one-way road.
Police said Rodrigues allegedly drove the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner without due care and caution, thereby endangering human life. On reaching near the Bodgeshwar temple, his car rammed into a scooter (GA-03-AB-5704) that was entering the one-way stretch from the temple side.
The scooter rider, identified as Umesh Kumar (38), a native of Delhi and residing at Mapusa, suffered grievous injuries in the accident.
Based on a complaint lodged by Head Constable Shivaji Shetkar, Mapusa Police have registered an offence under Sections 281 and 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 against the car driver.
Police said further investigation is in progress.
