CARANZALEM: The residents of Caranzalem Ramponkarancho Ekvott have expressed their desire for Caranzalem Beach to be formally designated as a “fishing beach.” The association voiced their disapproval of the increased number of water sports activities in the region.
Citing the long-standing importance of fishing to the local fishing community’s livelihoods, the association underlined the need to maintain and safeguard Caranzalem Beach as an area primarily used for fishing.
They maintained that the influx of water sports threatens the delicate ecological balance of the coastal environment and has a negative effect on fishermen’s means of subsistence.
Caranzalem Ramponkarancho Ekvott members emphasized the value of preserving beach access for fishing because it directly supports the livelihoods of many families in the neighbourhood. They emphasized the importance of fishing in Caranzalem’s history and culture, highlighting its crucial part in the local community’s identity and legacy.
The association also voiced concerns about possible environmental harm, such as pollution, disturbance of marine life, and damage to coral reefs and other coastal ecosystems, that could result from the growth of water sports.
They urged the appropriate authorities to give the preservation of Caranzalem Beach top priority and to hold off on issuing licenses for water sports operations that infringe on customary fishing areas.
