PANAJI: The Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) has appealed to the faithful across the country to unite in prayer for peace amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
In a circular issued on March 3 from New Delhi, CCBI President Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão called upon Archbishops, Bishops, priests, religious and lay faithful of the Latin Catholic Church in India to observe Sunday, March 8, 2026, as a Day of Prayer for Peace.
Highlighting the suffering caused by war and instability, particularly in the context of hostilities involving Iran and neighbouring nations, the statement expressed concern for Indians living and working in the Middle East and prayed for their safety and well-being.
The CCBI has urged that special prayers be offered during the Holy Eucharist for the cessation of violence, protection of innocent lives and wisdom among world leaders. The faithful have also been invited to recite the Holy Rosary daily from March 8 to March 14 for peace, and to observe a day of fasting and prayer on Friday, March 13.
The appeal concludes with a call for unity, penance and solidarity so that peace may prevail.
