Calangute: Panic gripped Prabhu Vaddo in Calangute after an elderly caretaker was found dead under suspicious circumstances on Tuesday. The victim, who had been working at a private property for over 15 years, was discovered with severe injuries about 15 to 20 metres away from his room.
Police sources said the man sustained serious head and body injuries, allegedly inflicted with a shovel. Calangute police rushed to the spot on receiving information and carried out a detailed inspection of the scene. The body was later sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Another person who was staying with the deceased has been detained for questioning. According to sources, the roommate told police that four unidentified persons had entered the premises and assaulted the caretaker. However, investigators said CCTV footage from the surrounding area does not show any individual entering the property, casting serious doubt on this version.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events and the motive behind the crime.
