ZUARINAGAR: A tragic incident unfolded when Mehboob Walikar (32), a caretaker from Zuarinagar Birla, lost his life after being attacked by a bull near Velsao lake.
According to sources, Walikar and his colleague were responsible for managing a cowshed in Birla. On Friday, one of their bulls went missing after its tether came loose. The duo searched through the night but were unable to locate the animal.
The search continued the next morning, and suspecting the bull might have wandered to Velsao lake, where they would usually take their cattle for grazing, the duo reached the site . Upon arrival, they spotted the bull in the lake. Walikar decided to retrieve it and entered the water while instructing his colleague to wait.
However, as he approached, the bull turned aggressive and charged at him, inflicting severe injuries on his thighs, chest, back, and shoulders leaving him grievously injured. His colleague immediately raised an alarm, prompting locals to rush to the scene. The injured Walikar was hurriedly taken to the Cansaulim Health Centre, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Following the incident, the locals managed to subdue and tie up the bull. Verna police have registered a case of unnatural death and are conducting further investigations.
