PANAJI: In the heart of Goa, a thrilling spectacle unfolded as Carmona Sports Club edged past Ugem Rising Club in a captivating penalty shootout, securing their spot in the quarterfinals of the prestigious 33rd Arlem Rolling Trophy. This event, meticulously organized by the Arlem Youth Association, took place at the Raia Panchayat ground, setting the stage for a high-stakes encounter.
The match itself was a testament to determination and skill, with Carmona Sports Club initially taking the lead through a goal by Mayen Gracias in the 37th minute. However, Ugem Rising Club demonstrated resilience, equalizing the score in the 51st minute courtesy of Austin Couthino’s strike. As neither team could find the decisive goal within regular time, the match progressed to a nail-biting penalty shootout.
In the shootout, Carmona Sports Club demonstrated unyielding resolve, converting their penalties through Christbern Estibeiro, Stamford Fernandes, Mayen Gracias, and Delzan Passanha. Ugem Rising Club, on the other hand, saw Milford Dias and Handlee Carvalho score their penalties, but it was not enough to alter the outcome. The performance of Dezwin Dias from Carmona Sports Club was especially noteworthy, earning him the Man of the Match award presented by Jerome Colaco, President of the Arlem Youth Association.
