PANAJI: To speed up the vaccination drive, the Expert Committee on covid management has recommended allowing private pediatric doctors to commence the vaccination drive in their clinics.
The Health Minister Vishwajit Rane today chaired the Expert Committee meeting, given the rising COVID-19 cases in the state over the past couple of days.
“State government is looking to grant permissions to paediatric doctors to participate in vaccination drive in private clinics. The expert committee has given these suggestions; there is no need to panic,” said Rane after the meeting.
He further appealed to the citizens to wear maks, follow social distancing and other COVID-19 appropriate behaviour.
“The expert committee has suggested wearing of masks, social distancing and other COVID-19 appropriate behaviour; the cases have been slightly increasing, but there is no need to panic; government cannot always get rules; each one should follow all rules,” he said.
The minister also requested people above the age of 60 to get themselves vaccinated for precautionary doses.
“Although the covid patient is growing, no immediate restrictions will be imposed. Citizens should follow the guidelines on their own. Covid vaccination also approved in pediatric clinics,’ he said
Rane also informed that teams of DHS will now be visiting different schools to conduct vaccination drives.
The health minister also said thrust would be given for 12-14 years and 15-17 to complete 100 per cent vaccination.
“Now, with schools re-opening, our teams will not be facing difficulties in vaccinating our children,” he added.
On tourism, Rane said that there is no need for restrictions on activities, and there is no need for the tourists to panic. The DHS will continuously monitor the graph of cases.
“If we see the graph of COVID-19 cases has been fluctuating,” he said.
Rane appealed to all the citizens to come forward to take the booster shot.
“In the wake of the rising cases, it is extremely crucial to take the shot, wear a mask and follow appropriate covid behaviour,” he said.
