PORVORIM: The Goa Government has decided to provide 13 distinguished athletes from Goa who recently won medals at the famous Berlin World Games special monetary prizes and rewards in order to honor and appreciate their outstanding accomplishments.
Sports minister Govind Gaude said that the athletes would receive their honors during the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
After the Leader of the Opposition, Yuri Alemao, brought up the subject in the legislative assembly, it was decided to honor these outstanding athletes. Alemao asked the government about its plans to recognize the outstanding achievements of the 13 athletes who proudly represented India at the Berlin World Games during the session.
He also expressed worry for the Special Olympics medal winners who had not received any prize money, citing a shortage of funding, including the 19 medal winners. Alemao also questioned any apparent discrepancies in treatment and emphasized the need for better facilities and tools for special athletes in the State.
Govind Gaude, the minister of sports, responded by claiming that the Goan government had not treated athletes in a “step-motherly” manner. He underscored the State’s unwavering dedication to supporting sports and giving all athletes strong support, regardless of their backgrounds or skills.
