PANAJI: As a part of the illegal encroachment drive, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) today morning evacuated fruit and vegetable vendors from the footpath of the Panaji Kadamba Transport Bus Stand.
The vendors have alleged that they were not given any prior notice of the same.
“We were not even given prior notice; CCP officers just came and removed our stalls; our business is first only affected due to the pandemic,” said a vendor.
They had said that some vendors have been sitting here for the last 50 years, even before the KTC bust stand existed.
“One side, we do not have profits, and here CCP and KTC want us removed; where do we go from here?” They questioned.
The vendors alleged that there is miscommunication between the CCP and KTC, due to which they have to suffer.
“It is not that we don’t want to talk and sort the issue. We are ready to talk,” they said
Further, the vendor who sells flowers at the KTC bus stand said, “We have been running this business for the last many years, and it is the question of our survival. The authorities should think about our families.
Another vendor appealed to the MMC chief and other government authorities to intervene in the matter.
He said the vendors have already suffered losses in business during the pandemic. They have pleaded to be allowed to put up roofs on their carts again.
“Our commodities are perishable, especially when kept under heat. They are expensive too for local vendors like us,” they said.
