PANAJI: Fish Market building’s demolition and the installation of temporary fish stalls were approved by the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) on Wednesday.
Following the ordinary meeting, CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate said “We want to start building phase III of the market. The structure housing the meat and fish stands will be razed down,”
He further said that this month will see the beginning of the old building’s demolition. The fish vendors are going to get relocated.
“The Government Polytechnic, Panaji, provided the Corporation with a structural stability report. The report states that the building is unsafe for human habitation at this time due to its distressed state and having outlived its economic useful life,” he added.
The CCP Mayor also informed that Rs 4,98,750 is the estimated cost of demolishing the building; this amount includes 18% GST and 5% contingencies.
He said that the Corporation will cover the cost of the demolition work. At a total cost of Rs 20, 61,964, which includes 18% GST, 5% contingencies, and 9% electrical works, up to 13 temporary meat stalls are to be built.
Mayor said that CCP has also approved the contract for phase three of the pay parking in the city to the same contractor as he was the highest bidder.
“The same contractor has bagged the contract for phase three pay parking,” stated Monserrate. This will generate revenue of Rs 1.6 crore for the CCP. Although there were other bidders as well, this particular bidder’s quotation was the highest.
The Corporation had released a Phase III pay parking tender, and upon evaluating the highest bidder (Sohan Juwarkar), who had quoted an amount of Rs 1.62 crore inclusive of GST, competitive bids were invited by e-tender. The three-year execution term of the agreement must be followed.
