Panaji: Reacting to the results of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) elections, Revenue Minister and Panaji MLA Atanasio “Babush” Monserrate said the outcome has delivered a strong message that even a united opposition could not defeat the BJP in the capital city.
The BJP-backed panel led by Monserrate won 27 out of 30 wards, securing a decisive mandate in the municipal corporation.
Speaking after the results were declared, Monserrate thanked the party leadership for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the panel and expressed gratitude to the voters for their support.
“This victory belongs to the party and the people who supported us. I am grateful to the party leadership for giving me the opportunity to lead the panel. I owe this win to the party,” Monserrate said.
Despite the sweeping victory, Monserrate said he was disappointed that the panel could not secure all the seats in the civic body. He revealed that the panel had aimed to win all 30 wards in the corporation.
“We had set a target of winning all 30 seats. While we are happy with the overwhelming mandate, losing three wards is disappointing,” he added.
The results have strengthened the BJP-backed panel’s position in the 30-member Corporation of the City of Panaji, giving it a comfortable majority to control the civic body.
