PANAJI:In a significant move, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has passed a resolution to demolish the controversial Eldorado building. The decision was taken during the council meeting, chaired by City Mayor Rohit Monserrate.
Further stepping up enforcement measures in the city’s heritage precincts, the CCP also resolved to deploy municipal staff and inspectors in the Sao Tome and Fontainhas areas starting Monday. This initiative aims to monitor and control nuisance caused by unruly tourist behavior in these sensitive neighbourhoods, which have seen rising complaints from local residents.
Notably, opposition councillors Uday Madkaikar and Surendra Furtado were not present during the meeting.
The Mayor stressed the importance of protecting Panaji’s heritage zones and maintaining civic discipline, adding that strict action would be taken against violations.
