CANACONA: Leopards on the prowl targetting Livestock of the residents at Sakrewal area Mastimoll in Canacona have increased, posing a serious and imminent threat of Man-Animal conflict.
People in the locality were complaining of their Livestock, including dogs and pets, disappearing, with many suspecting prowling of wild cats in the locality.
The dear came true as early Monday morning, a well-grown dog of Pradip Rane disappeared overnight, and when examined the CCTV footage found a Leopard took it away as early as 4.15 hours of Monday.
The CCTV footage saw the Leopard approaching a fast-asleep dog in the house courtyard of Pradip Rane without an inch of sound and, grabbing the sound-asleep dog dragging it away in the cover of darkness. The dog valiantly tries to break free but can’t do much as the wild cat disappears with its prey conveniently in the darkness.
The house of Rane, who also soundly sleeps inside with his family, is located just behind the Government Higher Secondary School, Mastimoll and has recently installed a CCTV following complaints of missing Livestock overnight in the locality.
People have requested the Forest department to make some arrangements for these Leopard’s prowling for their prey in their locality.
