KUDCHIRE: Mayem MLA Premendra Shet today said that Goa government has decided to scrap the construction and demolition debris waste treatment plant at Kudchire.
“Decision has been taken in consultation with CM Sawant considering the opposition of the villagers to the plant,” said Shet
On Sunday, Kudchirem-Bicholim locals intensified their opposition to the proposed garbage factory and building in the area.
To maintain their hamlet safe and cohesive, the people asked the local deity for her blessing. They also chanted anti-project slogans as they marched in protest from the Kudchirem sports complex to the Sateri shrine.
The residents also criticized the panchayat body for failing to take any action on the matter, stating that they opposed any proposal that would devastate the village’s natural waterways, flora, and fauna.
One of the locals, Prasad Umarye, urged the people to stay together and resist outside pressure.
A survey was being undertaken for the proposed construction and trash plant in the region, which infuriated the people earlier on August 29. To keep the peace and facilitate the survey, a sizable police presence was on the property.
