PANAJI: CD Fountainhead produced a commanding all round performance to defeat Desserts N More Avengers by 19 runs and emerge champions of the GSB Unity Cup 3.0 cricket tournament held at the MCC Ground.
After winning the toss, Desserts N More Avengers elected to field first. Taking advantage of the batting conditions, CD Fountainhead built a solid total of 180 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs.
Opening batter Atchut Naik Dalal got the innings underway with 23 runs, while Aditya Prabhugaonkar accelerated the scoring with a quick 28 from just 18 balls. The innings gained further stability when Manish Kakode played a vital knock of 37 off 22 deliveries, striking five boundaries. In the closing overs, Vikrant Prabhu delivered a valuable unbeaten 38 from 25 balls to guide the team to a competitive total. Captain Pranav Biche also contributed 15 runs.
For Desserts N More Avengers, Kaushal Hattangadi, Pratham Prabhugaonkar and Siddhesh Prabhu Alvencar claimed two wickets each to keep the opposition from scoring even more.
Chasing a challenging target of 181, Desserts N More Avengers began their innings with positive intent. Wicketkeeper Venkatesh Verlekar played an aggressive innings of 34 from 19 balls, providing early momentum. Saish Hegde then steadied the chase with a composed 35 off 29 deliveries.
Pankaj Naik added 28 runs, while captain Kaushal Hattangadi contributed a fighting 32 from 25 balls to keep his side in the contest. However, regular wickets in the middle overs disrupted the chase and the team eventually finished at 161 for 9 in 20 overs.
For CD Fountainhead, Manish Kakode impressed with the ball by taking two wickets for 33 runs in four overs. Gaurav Borkar also claimed two important wickets, while Anish Prabhudesai and Vikrant Prabhu picked up a wicket each to seal the victory.
The prize distribution ceremony was attended by Digambar Kamat, who praised the organisers for successfully hosting the tournament for the third consecutive year. Several dignitaries were present at the event and felicitated the winning teams and individual performers.
Manish Kakode was named Player of the Match, while Vikrant Prabhu received the Hero of the Match award and was also honoured as Player of the Series for his outstanding all round performance throughout the tournament. The event also included community outreach initiatives, with financial assistance extended to local institutions as part of the organisers’ social responsibility efforts.
