PANAJI: While hailing successive BJP government for protecting the rights and interest of Scheduled Tribe communities in Goa, the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today pointed out how, despite issuing ordinances in the past, the Congress led UPA government failed to give justice to the backward community.
Addressing the media, CM Pramod Sawant said that the Congress had completely failed to protect the rights and interest of Scheduled Tribe communities in Goa.
“Congress had completely failed to protect the rights and interest of Scheduled Tribe communities in Goa. Despite issuing ordinances in the past, the Congress led UPA government failed to give justice to the backward community,” said Sawant
Speaking further, Sawant clarified that what Central cabinet has passed is a Bill and not Ordinance and that the Bill is vetted by Law Department, Government of India.
“The Bill empowers Census Commissioner to notify the population of STs in Goa & based on that 4 seats would be reserved in Goa Assembly,” he added
Sawant also stated said that Goa’s Scheduled Tribe Community is witnessing a historic moment with Central Cabinet’s nod for their reservation in Goa Legislative Assembly under the leadership and support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
The Chief Minister has also thanked Amit Shah for his continued support in giving justice to the Goa’s ST community.
“This is a major victory for the ST Community of Goa,” the Chief Minister said.
The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday approved the proposal of the Ministry of Law & Justice for the introduction of the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill, 2024 in Parliament.
