PANAJI: The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Goa, has strongly denied allegations of voter enrollment irregularities in the 11-Panaji Assembly Constituency, made by activist Elvis Gomes.
The CEO has reiterated its commitment to maintaining an accurate and transparent electoral roll.
Responding to videos circulated on “Prudent Media” and platform X, where Gomes accused authorities of enrolling ineligible voters and mass transfer of Booth Level Officers (BLOs), the CEO clarified that two complaints dated May 12 and May 27, filed by Gomes under “Citizens for Democracy Goa”, were referred to the North Goa District Election Officer (DEO) for inquiry.
North Goa Collector and DEO Ankit Yadav, in an interim report submitted on June 12, stated that only 11 new BLOs had taken charge.
An inquiry led by Additional Collector-I is underway to assess the appointments’ compliance with Election Commission of India (ECI) norms. The April 17 BLO appointment order has been kept in abeyance pending the outcome.
On allegations of the inclusion of foreign nationals, particularly Nepali citizens, the CEO clarified that strict verification procedures are followed to ensure only eligible citizens are enrolled.
Citizens suspecting irregularities can file Form 7 for deletion requests or raise objections as per due process.
The CEO’s office reiterated its adherence to ECI guidelines and assured that the integrity of the electoral rolls will be upheld at all times.
