New Delhi: IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers has assured employees that the airline is steadily returning to normal operations following several days of widespread disruptions marked by mass cancellations and delays. In an internal video message shared from the airline’s operational control centre, he said IndiGo is expected to operate around 1,650 flights on Sunday as systems continue to stabilise.
The airline, which typically runs about 2,300 flights a day, saw its schedule severely impacted in recent days. On Friday, operations dropped to just over 700 flights, before improving to about 1,500 on Saturday. Elbers said the airline’s On Time Performance is projected to reach about 75 percent on Sunday, reflecting ongoing efforts to enhance coordination and restore reliability.
He noted that teams have implemented measures to identify and cancel flights earlier in the process. This, he explained, reduces inconvenience for passengers by ensuring they are informed in advance and do not arrive at airports unaware of schedule changes. The airline has also reopened nearly all destinations, with 137 of its 138 stations operational as of December 7.
Elbers acknowledged the challenges faced by both staff and travellers in recent days but emphasised that the airline is gradually regaining momentum. He said the focus remains on stabilising operations step by step and restoring IndiGo’s service standards as quickly as possible.
