Panaji: In a thrilling finale at SAG’s Athletics Stadium, Bambolim, CES College of Arts & Commerce, Cuncolim, claimed the Goa University Inter-Collegiate Football Men Championship 2025-26, defeating Rosary College of Commerce & Arts, Navelim, 3-2. The championship saw participation from 42 colleges across the state.
The match began with both teams demonstrating skillful play and strong defensive tactics, keeping the scoreboard level for most of the first half. Breakthrough came in the 40th and 43rd minutes when Swavel Furtado of CES College capitalized on defensive lapses by Rosary College, scoring twice to give Cuncolim a 2-0 lead. Rosary responded immediately, with Salvador Gama scoring in the 46th minute to reduce the deficit, ending the first half at 2-1.
The second half maintained a high tempo. In the 58th minute, Tohid Yattanolli of CES College added a third goal with a precise ground shot, extending their lead to 3-1. Rosary College fought back fiercely, and in the 91st minute, Garrison Fernandes scored from a well-placed cross, bringing the score to 3-2. Despite their late surge, Rosary College could not equalize, and CES College held on to secure the title.
Swavel Furtado of CES College was named Best Player of the final for his decisive performance, while Garrison Fernandes of Rosary College was awarded Best Player of the championship for being the highest scorer with 10 goals and contributing consistently throughout the tournament.
The valedictory ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Dr. Caitano Fernandes, President of the Goa Football Association, along with dignitaries including Prof. Brahma Edwin Barretto, Principal of CES College, and directors of physical education and sports from participating colleges. Medals and trophies were presented to the finalists, marking the culmination of a fiercely competitive and memorable championship.
