MARGAO:;Two separate criminal incidents were reported in South Goa on 10th January 2026, involving a chain snatching in Margao and a house burglary in Verna, prompting police to intensify their investigations.
In the first incident, Martha Meera, a resident of Margao, complained that at around 1:00 pm, while she had gone out to collect a newspaper and was returning home, an unknown male followed her from behind. The suspect approached her under the pretext of asking for directions and suddenly snatched her gold chain worth approximately ₹50,000 from her neck before fleeing from the spot.
PSI Shubham Gaunkar of Margao Town Police Station is carrying out further investigation.
In another case, Maria Mendes, a resident of Dando, Verna, reported that between 6:00 pm and 7:15 pm on the same day, unknown persons broke open the rear door of her house, forced open a cupboard locker, and stole gold ornaments including one bangle, one necklace, two gold chains with pendants, two finger rings and one pendant, all valued at approximately ₹1.90 lakh.
The case is being investigated by PSI Rajdatt Arsekar of Verna Police Station.
Police have registered both cases and are working to trace the accused persons involved.
