PONDA: Tension and chaos marked the nomination process for the Ponda by-election on Monday, with heated arguments breaking out between BJP and Congress workers and a confrontation reported between AAP leaders and police at the Deputy Collector’s office.
Congress leaders alleged injustice during the filing of nominations, claiming that BJP cadres were allowed inside the premises while opposition party supporters were restricted. The party accused the authorities of adopting a discriminatory approach and favouring the ruling party during the crucial process.
Amid the confusion, Congress workers raised slogans and objected to what they described as unequal treatment. They demanded that the same rules be applied to all political parties and called for transparency in the nomination process.
AAP leaders also confronted police officials outside the office, alleging discrimination between the ruling party and the opposition. The AAP delegation questioned why their supporters were stopped at the entrance while BJP workers were permitted inside. The argument led to a brief standoff, with police attempting to control the situation and maintain order.
Police personnel deployed at the venue intervened to prevent further escalation and regulated the entry of supporters. The situation later came under control, and the nomination process continued under tight security.
The chaotic scenes added to the charged political atmosphere in Ponda, where a triangular contest is emerging for the by-election, with BJP, Congress and AAP intensifying their campaign efforts.
