MAPUSA: Mapusa Police have filed a 795-page chargesheet before the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Mapusa, in connection with a major property fraud involving forged documents of survey no. 78/2 in Assagao, Bardez. The case, registered in March 2022 on the complaint of Vincent D’Souza from Delhi, alleged impersonation of legal heirs and fraudulent transfer of land rights.
The chargesheet names Mohammad Suhail (48), a native of Karnataka and currently in judicial custody at Colvale, as the mastermind who prepared fake documents and bank accounts central to the conspiracy. His close aide Raju Methi (44), Panaji resident, and 80-year-old Paulina Juliana Diniz of Cuncolim, who allegedly assisted him, are also named as accused. Another accused, Royson Rodrigues (49) of Siolim, earlier arrested, is presently out on conditional bail.
Police noted that Suhail destroyed several forged documents he had created. Diniz, though bed-ridden, has been linked to the conspiracy. The chargesheet also records that three other accused — Mariano Antonio Teles Gonsalves, Branca Rodrigues, and Premanand Desai — have since passed away.
The case, registered under IPC sections relating to forgery, cheating, impersonation, and criminal conspiracy, is under trial before JMFC Mapusa as CC No.317/S/2025/D. The matter has been fixed for hearing on October 6, 2025.
