PANAJI: In an interesting development the Charles Correia Foundation (CCF) has endorsed the conclusion of the Task Force regarding the necessity of a structural audit for the Kala Academy in Panaji.
“We endorse the conclusion of the Task Force regarding the need for a structural audit of Kala Academy as it stands today. It is an essential step we have asked for from the start,” said CCF in a statement issued here.
This call to action comes in the wake of the building’s recent structural degradation and the collapse of sections post-renovation.
“In view of the degradation of the structure in its recent history, and the collapse of sections of the building post-renovation, it is imperative that such an audit is undertaken, not only to ensure the building’s structural stability but also to ensure safety for the public,” it said.
The Charles Correia Foundation has been advocating for a structural audit of the Kala Academy from the outset, given the building’s deteriorating condition. The recent collapse of certain sections of the building post-renovation has further underscored the critical need for such an audit. This assessment is crucial not only to evaluate the building’s current state but also to prevent any potential hazards to the public.
The foundation strongly recommends that the audit be conducted by experts from IIT-Madras, who possess the requisite expertise in working with and conserving old concrete structures.
“We agree and demand that this audit be carried out at the earliest, preferably by IIT-Madras who have the expertise in working with and conserving old concrete. We sincerely hope that necessary measures are taken towards the restoration of the building,” CCF stated.
It said the urgency of the situation demands that this audit be carried out as soon as possible to ensure the building’s safety and stability.
The Charles Correia Foundation hopes that the necessary measures will be taken promptly to restore the Kala Academy to its former glory.
The foundation’s primary concern is the safety of the public and the preservation of this significant cultural institution. By undertaking a thorough structural audit, the authorities can take proactive steps to prevent any further deterioration and ensure the building remains a safe and vibrant hub for cultural activities.
