PANAJI: The Charles Correa Foundation (CCF) is slated to deliver a comprehensive presentation on the deteriorating state of Kala Academy at a meeting arranged by the Kala Rakhonn Mandd in Margao. The presentation will be followed by discussions at the Fomento Amphitheatre of Gomant Vidya Niketan, Margao at 5 pm on Friday, July 5.
Renowned architect Tanvi Karia, who is also the convener of the Charles Correa Foundation, will present a detailed analysis of the extensive damage that has plagued the entire Kala Academy complex over the past two decades, dating back to the first International Film Festival of India (IFFI) held in Goa in 2004.
Cecille Rodrigues, the secretary of Kala Rakhonn Mandd, has urged all artists, artists, writers, musicians, dancers, singers, painters, folk artists, and art enthusiasts to gather in large numbers and gain a deep understanding of the issue.
Furthermore, Rodrigues has extended an invitation to all 40 MLAs to attend this presentation and advocate for the issuance of a White Paper on Kala Academy during the upcoming monsoon session of the Goa Assembly, commencing on July 15.
Earlier in the week, the newly formed Kala Rakhonn Mandd, an association of artists, staged a protest and performed a traditional ‘Garane’ in front of the Kala Academy building at Campal. Their demands included a White Paper on the repairs of the Kala Academy building, as well as a joint meeting with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Minister of Art and Culture Govind Gaude to address the issue. In addition, they called for a technical audit of the renovation work carried out at Kala Academy along with the preparation of video documentation.
