PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today announced that state government will be providing free of cost digital meters to all taxi operators in the state for which the state has she’ll put Re 34 crore.
CM also informed that Goa Miles too will have to install digital meters.
“Govt will give free digital meters, which are made compulsory for all taxis in the state. Also the app based taxi provider Goa Miles too have to install meters,” said CM Sawant speaking to reporters
He further said that taxi badges and 15 years domicile of Goa is compulsory to avail license and drive a taxi.
“the financial burden on the state due to free meters to around 20,000 taxis will be to the tune of Rs 34 crores and budget provision for this is already made,” said CM Sawant
Meanwhile, Calangute MLA Micheal Lobo said that cab aggregators will not be allowed to take customers from taxi stands, beaches, hotels and everyone will have to follow the queue system.
“We will not allow any cab aggregator to pick up guests or customer from the taxi stands, beach stands, hotel stands etc irrespective of whether they book on app or anywhere else. The queue system will be followed since all taxi operators will be using the digital meters,” said Lobo
He further asked cab operators to ensure that aggregators do not take guests from Hotels stands and taxi stands at Anjuna, Vagator, Chapora, Morjem, Arambol, Kerim, Arpora, Calangute, Candolim and other places along the beach belt.
