CANACONA: In a case likely to political fallout, Canacona police registered FIR for Cheating against Sanquelim Congress candidate Dharmesh Sanglani, who is second-time in a row contesting against Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant.
Sanglani has been reportedly accused of duping a family of Patnem (beach Coast of Canacona) for Rs.40 Lakhs in a land deal forgery.
Canacona Police Inspector Pravin Gawas informed between March and April 2016, Dharmesh Prabhudas Sanglani of Gokulwadi- Sanquelim reportedly deposited an amount of Rs.40 lakh in two different transactions of Rs.25 lakhs and Rs.15 lakhs in the bank account of one Ghanshyam Varik, Father of Pravin Varik, the complainant in the case.
Pravin has alleged Sanglani of dishonestly taking self-signed cheques from his late Father and allegedly withdrew both amounts from his Father’s account. Pravin further alleged that Saglani took his late Father Ghanshyam Varik to the office of the Sub-Registrar and reportedly executed an agreement for Sale to dishonestly grab the complainants property near Seashore and their house at Patnem Canacona.
In the FIR, Canacona police have registered an offence under section 420 IPC and investigation is ongoing.
Stating he is surprised to know Canacona police has registered FIR against him, Dharmesh Sanglani busy in launching his election campaign, after his name is cleared by Congress high Command to contest in Sanquelim, where Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant is also seeking re-election, said it’s a BJP’s ploy to silence him politically. It’s political vendetta and nothing else.
Sanglani told Goemkarponn, “Varik has filed false, fabricated and a politically motivated complaint alleging that without knowledge of his Father I transferred 40 lakh in his Father’s account in the year 2016 and took him to sub-registrar office. It is surprising that after 6 years and suddenly in 2022 after my candidature is declared, the Varik family comes up with such a false and baseless allegation.”.
“In fact, in the year 2019, I have filed a civil case for specific performance of agreement against Varik family in which case Varik family have filed a reply, and it is their case that they had taken money of 40 lakh from me for transfer of their property but that as they cancelled agreement, the money was refunded by them but now surprisingly after I am declared as candidate against the Goa CM, same Varik family files complaint saying that they were not aware of the transfer of monies to their account,” he said.
Saglani said the complaint is non-cognizable, but under political pressure, FIR was registered within two days. On 7.12.2021.
“I had filed a criminal complaint against Varik family before same Canacona police station for creating fabricated document by Varik family forging my signature. However, no action has been taken yet. But against a bogus complaint of Varik family, the Police acted and filed FIR within two days,” he said.
