CHICALIM: In a rare display of unity, the Chicalim Panchayat on Sunday witnessed a peaceful and productive gramsabha, where locals and panch members came together to discuss key civic issues and later felicitated Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav for the construction of 1919 Sportz, Goa’s largest private cricket stadium at Verna IDC.
Panch member Francisco Nunes said the meeting reflected the growing sense of cooperation among villagers and the Panchayat body. “The gramsabha was held peacefully, and several major issues were taken up,” said Nunes. “We had a long-standing problem of handcarts being left unattended in public areas, which has now been resolved. It was unanimously decided that handcarts must be taken back home after business hours and will not be allowed to remain stationary. Another key issue discussed was random parking of vehicles, and we have agreed to impose sopo fees to regulate parking and curb congestion.”
Nunes said the highlight of the meeting was the felicitation of the Sarpanch for his contribution to sports infrastructure in Goa. “The locals and panch members came together to honour Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav for facilitating the construction of the 1919 Sportz Cricket Stadium — Goa’s largest private cricket stadium at Verna. Yadav has done a commendable job, and we are extremely thankful to him for his efforts in promoting sports and bringing pride to Chicalim,” Nunes added.
Expressing gratitude for the gesture, Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav said that unity and teamwork within the Panchayat had been key to its success. “Our Panchayat has won several state and national awards because we function as one team, irrespective of political affiliations,” Yadav said. “I have always ensured that every local query is addressed respectfully during gramsabhas. The people are not our opponents — they are the ones who have elected us. Healthy discussions help us arrive at collective decisions that benefit the entire village.”
Yadav further outlined his vision to make Chicalim a model self-sustained Panchayat. “We want to take our village to the next level by creating multiple sources of revenue and streamlining Panchayat operations,” he said. “Since I took charge as Sarpanch, we have introduced uniforms for staff so that residents can easily identify them. We’ve also set up a reception desk that provides all necessary information and directs people to the concerned departments, ensuring quicker service.”
The Sarpanch added that improving public interaction remains a top priority. “We have instructed our staff to treat every visitor courteously and resolve their issues within minutes,” Yadav said. “The staff are the first point of contact with the public, and their behaviour reflects the Panchayat’s image. We want every citizen to feel respected and served efficiently.”
The meeting concluded with a sense of collective accomplishment and optimism, as villagers, panch members, and the Panchayat leadership pledged to continue working together for Chicalim’s progress.
