CANACONA – In an indirect reference to the IIT Goa, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant hints at allotting a topmost educational institution to Canacona.
Sawant was speaking at the Vijay Sankalp Purti Melava, where he, along with five others, was felicitated by Canacona BJP Mandal and Canacona Nagrik Samiti.
Speaking at the fag end of his speech, Sawant said, ‘ I will keep an eye on bringing the people-oriented projects in Canacona, especially we are going to get a lot of changes on Tourism front all his(Tawadkar’s) identified projects that will benefit Canacona people. Only the day before yesterday, he also mentioned to me that he had identified. If an extensive educational project comes to Canacona, we could have utilized government or another available land, and that would have helped Canconcars. I assure you definitely a significant and better education prakalp (Project) will come to Canacona ‘., Sawant said.
‘And with the assistance of central funds, the type of handicrafts projects which is brought at Sanguem, the effort will be made to bring a similar project or food processing unit or new innovational unit which can employ the children of Canacona will be made’.
It may be recalled that Chief Minister has recently made an announcement that the decision to allocate/finalize land for the prestigious educational institute IIT-Goa will be taken within three months.
The IIT-Goa campus initially planned in Bhagwati Plateau in Loliem village (Canacona) was opposed to forcing the government to shift it out of the taluka. At the same time, it met a similar fate in Sanguem and after that at Melauli in Sattari.
According to reports, soon after assembly elections, Tawadkar was heard informally taking suggestions from people in position if IIT is brought back to Canacona.
