Panaji: “A nation’s progress is measured by how well it nurtures its youth and empowers its women,” stated Chief Minister of Goa Dr Pramod P Sawant, emphasising the pivotal role played by women in shaping industries and driving societal progress, at the recently held NEXUS 2025, the flagship annual conclave of the Sanquelim-based Goa Institute of Management’s (GIM) marketing club, MECCA.
The event, which celebrated the contributions of women leaders in the fields of marketing, advertising and planning, was attended by CM Sawant as the chief guest, alongside Curtorim MLA and Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) chairperson Reginaldo Lourenco.
In his address, CM Sawant emphasized the importance of gender inclusivity and highlighted the significance of the Women’s Reservation Bill, which was passed in 2023 and provides 33 per cent reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies, ensuring greater representation of women in governance and decision-making processes.
“The strength of a society lies in how it uplifts those who have long been unheard,” said CM Sawant, further adding that true empowerment commences when the potential of every individual, regardless of their background or circumstances, is recognised.
He also shed light on the various government initiatives aimed at empowering women, fostering entrepreneurship, and ensuring equal leadership opportunities, stating, “True equality is achieved not by division, but by ensuring everyone has the opportunity to lead”.
Curtorim MLA Lourenco, too, informed the audience about the financial and infrastructural support available to women-led businesses through GIDC and encouraged aspiring entrepreneurs to take advantage of these opportunities to build successful enterprises.
According to Prof Ajit Parulekar, Director of GIM, NEXUS 2025 opened new avenues for student marketing enthusiasts to learn from trailblazing individuals in business: “NEXUS 2025 brought together industry veterans and young talent on one platform, while also serving as a bridge connecting academia with real-world business challenges, with a thrust on problem-solving”.
NEXUS 2025 trained the spotlight on women leaders, celebrating their achievements in the fields of marketing, advertising and planning, through a series of insightful panel discussions featuring accomplished women leaders in the marketing field, and other competitive events for student participants to showcase their marketing skills.
