New Delhi: Union Minister Chirag Paswan on Friday clarified that he has no intention of appearing “greedy” by demanding the Deputy Chief Minister position, as he thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for granting two cabinet berths to his Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) in Bihar’s new government.
Speaking at a press conference, Paswan highlighted the party’s performance in the recent assembly polls, where the LJP(RV) won 19 out of 29 contested seats, often in areas considered weaker for the NDA. “Our success was possible because of people’s blessings and the Prime Minister’s support. Two cabinet berths are enough. How much more greedy can Chirag Paswan be?” he said.
Reflecting on the party’s journey, Paswan recalled the challenging phase in 2021 when the LJP was split, and contrasted it with the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where the party contested five seats and won all, attributing the victories to the alliance and the Prime Minister’s faith.
Paswan also outlined plans to expand the party’s footprint beyond Bihar, targeting upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab as part of the NDA. “After the recent success in Bihar, we are seriously preparing to contest in these states as an NDA partner,” he stated.
The NDA returned to power in Bihar with 202 out of 243 assembly seats, with the BJP winning 89, JD(U) 85, LJP(RV) 19, HAM 5, and RLM 4 seats, marking a decisive victory for the alliance.
Chirag Paswan’s remarks underline a focus on party growth and alliance strength, while dismissing personal ambitions for higher positions in the state cabinet.
