PANAJI: Christ University Bengaluru emerged victorious at the second edition of the Justice G. D. Kamat Memorial National Moot Court Competition 2024, organised by V. M. Salgaocar College of Law (VMSCL). The Valedictory Ceremony took place on 11th February, with Hon’ble Shri Justice Mahesh S. Sonak, the sitting judge of the High Court of Goa at Bombay, was invited as the chief guest.
The ceremony took place in Z Square Banquets, Panaji and witnessed the presence of eminent dignitaries, including chief guest Shri Justice Mahesh S. Sonak, VMSCL Principal Dr. Shaber Ali G., Vice President of VMSCL Management Committee DSES Shri Bhaskar Nayak, Trustee of G.D. Kamat Charitable Trust Shri Dinar Bhatkar, Faculty coordinators Dr. K.S. Rao & Ms. Priyanka Shet and student coordinator Ms Riddhi Moghe.
The final round was judged by Hon’ble Shri. Justice Bharat Pandurang Deshpande, Hon’ble Shri. Justice Avinash Pundalik Lavande and Hon’ble Shri. Justice Utkarsh Vishvanath Bakre, for which Christ University Bengaluru was adjudged the winner, and R V Institute of Legal Studies Bengaluru emerged as the runners-up. The winning team, comprising Nirih Kamplimath, Pratham Baliga and Prakriti Thakur, was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 and the runners-up, comprising Manoj M, Tanniru Venata Saran and Rakshit R, were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 25,000 with trophies and merit certificates.
In addition to this, special awards were conferred upon the Best Mooter, which, due to a tie, were collectively bagged by Ardhya Dixit of KES Shri Jayantilal H Patel Law College Mumbai and Aditi Singh of Maharashtra National University Nagpur, Best Researcher, which was secured by Meenakshi Remesh from Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad. They were awarded cash prizes of Rs. 15,000 and Rs.10,000, respectively, along with trophies and merit certificates. The Maharashtra National Law University Nagpur won the Best Memorial, and a cash prize of Rs.15,000 and a trophy and merit certificates were conferred upon them.
In his valedictory address, Justice Sonak praised all the participants for displaying excellence throughout the competition. He urged all the students to embrace reading since it will help them in their legal career. VMSCL organised this competition in collaboration with the Justice G.D. Kamat Charitable Trust, which witnessed the participation of 24 teams representing prestigious institutions nationwide.
