PANAJI: The Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs has issued an advisory to LPG consumers in Goa following reports of malpractices in the supply and delivery of LPG cylinders. Officials said they had observed incidents involving underweight cylinders, tampering with safety seals, and other unsafe delivery practices that not only pose serious risks to consumer safety but also violate consumer rights.
In its advisory, the Department has urged consumers to ensure that LPG cylinders are weighed in their presence at the time of delivery. Consumers are advised to check the tare weight and net weight markings on the cylinder and verify them using the weighing scale provided with the delivery vehicle, which must have an accuracy of +/- 10 grams.
Consumers have also been cautioned against accepting any cylinder with a broken, tampered, or loose safety seal, and instructed to only accept cylinders with intact safety caps and seals from authorized LPG distributors.
Additionally, the Department advised customers to use the respective LPG company’s mobile app or SMS/IVRS system to confirm delivery authenticity and booking status. Consumers should not pay any extra amount other than what is officially prescribed by Oil Marketing Companies and printed on the delivery receipt.
The Department also reminded that the standard mode of LPG cylinder delivery is “Home Delivery” only, and distributors or dealers are not permitted to charge any additional amount without the approval of the competent authority.
Authorities have urged consumers to stay vigilant and report any irregularities to help ensure safe and fair delivery practices across the state.
