Valpoi: In a move to promote traditional craftsmanship and support rural livelihoods, MLA Dr. Deviya Rane on Thursday distributed Clay Moulding Machines to artisans from remote parts of Sattari under the aegis of the Goa Handicrafts Rural & Small Scale Industrial Development Corporation Limited.
The beneficiaries of this initiative include:
•Mahesh Ladu Gaonkar, Naneli, V.P. Dongurli, Thane – Sattari
• Harichandra Kusta Gaonkar, Poriem – Sattari
•Tulshidas Shivlo Gaonkar, Maddiwada, Thane – Sattari
The initiative aims to revive traditional pottery and handicrafts, enhance artisan productivity, and promote self-employment through improved tools and infrastructure. It forms part of a broader push toward rural entrepreneurship and cultural preservation.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rane reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening rural economies through sustainable, skill-based empowerment. “Encouraging traditional practices while equipping artisans with modern tools helps create income-generating opportunities and preserve our cultural heritage,” she said.
She added that such targeted support plays a crucial role in building a self-reliant and resilient Goa, especially in regions where traditional skills are passed down through generations.
This distribution marks another step in the ongoing efforts to integrate rural artisans into the state’s broader economic development framework while safeguarding intangible cultural assets.
