PANAJI: In a significant boost to public health infrastructure, three water kiosks have been inaugurated at major transit hubs in Goa—Tivim Railway Station, Margao Railway Station, and the Kadamba Bus Stand.
The initiative, led by The Social Lab (TSL) and United Way of Mumbai (UWM) with the support of HSBC India, aims to provide free, safe, and 24×7 access to clean drinking water to commuters, transport workers, and the general public. Each kiosk is equipped with advanced filtration systems and designed to reduce single-use plastic consumption while promoting environmental sustainability.
The kiosks were inaugurated by Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy and Power Shripad Naik in the presence of BJP Goa President Damu Naik, Fisheries Minister Nilkant Halarnkar, Margao MLA and former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar, and Adesh Gupta, Director of TSL’s Advisory Board. Senior representatives from HSBC India also attended the event.
Speaking at the launch, Shripad Naik said that clean drinking water is a fundamental public service and praised the initiative for addressing a critical commuter need. Other dignitaries called the project a step toward enhancing the dignity and well-being of citizens in public spaces.
The water kiosk project is part of HSBC India’s broader community development initiative, which has already established over 80 such kiosks across the country, impacting more than 1.2 million lives annually.
