PANAJI: Oxford Cricket Club, Goa produced a dominant performance to lift the Late Rajan Bhai Angane Under 16 Memorial Cup, defeating Aim Cricket Academy Sawantwadi A by six wickets in the final played at Boarding Ground, Malvan. A superb innings from Yashraj Kalaskar proved decisive as Oxford comfortably chased down the target to secure the title.
After winning the toss, Oxford opted to field first and managed to restrict Sawantwadi to a moderate total. Aim Cricket Academy began cautiously before Sahil Metri injected momentum into the innings with a brisk 40 off 32 balls. In the middle order, Fudail Aga contributed a quick 31 from 18 deliveries to stabilise the scoring. Despite these efforts, regular breakthroughs prevented Sawantwadi from building a bigger total as the side was bowled out for 146 in 24.5 overs, with extras contributing 16 runs.
Oxford’s bowling attack delivered a disciplined performance. Abhisek Lamani led the charge with an impressive spell of four wickets for 32 runs in six overs. Arnav Naik matched the impact with four wickets for 21 runs in five overs. Vedaant Aigal and Farhan Shaikh chipped in with one wicket each to ensure Sawantwadi could not accelerate towards the end of the innings.
Chasing 147 for victory, Oxford began steadily with Rehan Hubali adding 25 runs at the top of the order. The innings then revolved around Yashraj Kalaskar, who produced a commanding knock of 87 from 79 balls that included fourteen boundaries and a six. His aggressive yet controlled batting placed Oxford firmly in control of the chase.
Although Farhan Shaikh departed early and Rumaan Mulam added eight runs, Barhaan Dash remained unbeaten on 20 to guide the side to victory. Oxford reached 148 for four in 31 overs to seal a comfortable win.
For Sawantwadi, Datteya Naik claimed two wickets while Mayank Rawool and Piyush Sawant picked up one each, but the target proved insufficient to challenge Oxford’s batting line up.
The victory highlighted the strong partnership between Oxford Cricket Club and NXTGen Cricket Academy, whose coaching support and player development played a significant role in the team’s success.
