BICHOLIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has urged parents and young people to stay alert and resist offers that could draw them into drug trafficking, warning that traffickers often tempt locals with large sums of money to transport parcels.
Addressing the gathering after flagging off a rally organised by Bicholim Police Station to observe the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Sawant called for collective responsibility in creating a “Nashamukt” (drug-free) Goa.
He noted that the promise of quick money has led some to become involved in the illegal drug trade.
Sawant appealed to parents to actively counsel their children against taking up suspicious offers, stressing the importance of awareness among the younger generation about such risks.
“We need every section of society to commit to ending this problem,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Narcotics Cell is conducting awareness campaigns throughout the State. Bicholim Police Inspector Vijay Rane and his team held rallies and special educational sessions in schools and colleges across Sakhali and other parts of Bicholim taluka.
PI Rane also called on the public to support these initiatives and work together to make Goa a drugs-free state.
