PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today announced the Save Water to Get Free Water scheme under which 16,000 liters of tap water will be provided free of cost to each household from September 1.
CM also said that free water implies zero water charges, zero meter rent and in effect zero bill.
“Goa will be the first state in the country to provide free water to its citizens. Goa governments ‘Save water to get free water’ scheme providing 16,000 litres of water for free to every household in the state will commence from tomorrow Sept 1,” said CM Sawant
He further said that free water implies zero water charges, zero meter rent and in effect zero bill. Also, Sewerage bill has also been reduced to zero. 60 % consumers from Goa will get zero bill as a result of the scheme.
He further said that state governemnt has also extended One Time Settlement Scheme for water bills by 2 more months for defaulting consumers.
Sawant said that water shortage issue is also likely to be resolved as a fallout as people will be reducing their water usage to fit into the free water bracket.
“CM said that as per the assurance given in the state budget, small time Entrepreneurs and Hoteliers have been shifted from industrial to commercial category for water billing purposes. Small entrepreneurs will benefit from this substantially,” he added
CM further added that the free water scheme will also benefit people staying in buildings and complexes as the water consumption of one meter will be divided with total number of flats in the complex.
