TALEIGAO: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today questioned as Goa University’s rank has been sliding down despite the infrastructure push and human resources.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant addressed the students and faculties after the inauguration the Goa University Research Park Unit (GURU) UNIGOA Knowledge & Innovation Foundation (Section 8 Company) at Goa University, Taleigao.
“Big question mark as to why Goa University ranking has fallen in spite OF infra push & human resource; 50% Goan students do not know about GPSC & competitive exams,” said Sawant.
He further said that 80% of students are not ready to face competitive exams.
Sawant said that students passing out from colleges were unaware of Goa Public Service Commission (GPSC) conducting exams for government jobs, stakeholders agreed that awareness gaps needed to be criticality filled.
Sawant has said that the state government is working to ensure that students excel in research, innovation, and information technology. He has also said that Goan students could be part of space missions in the future.
Goa University’s position has slipped to the rank band 151-200 in the University category after being featured in the rank band 101-150 for two consecutive years.
Goa University, however, managed to secure a place in rank band 51-100 in the category of State Public Universities.
In 2024, GU’s ranking dropped from 101 in 2023 to the 151-200 band, and it is not in the top 100 for the third year in a row.
QS World University Rankings: In 2024, GU’s ranking in the Asia category dropped 50 ranks from the previous year to 601. In the Southern Asia category, GU’s ranking dropped 44 ranks from the previous year to 189.
