Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday assured the house to clear remaining 6906 claims of Forest Right by 31st March 2026. Leader Of Opposition Yuri Alemao raised the issue to give justice to communities.
Stressing on to clear the Forest Right Claims, Yuri Alemao said that the process should be streamlined and give justice to the people.
“Department’s long-term vision for the tribal community is loaded with good intentions, but on the ground, it appears more symbolic than substantive. Only 2398 claims out of 10,346 Forest Rights are approved, while 6906 claims remain pending.
Around 1039 applications are rejected.
“It is sad to see that reasons given for pendency are like due to monsoon, wild bushes, wild leeches and other. This is more of a bureaucratic farce. These excuses only delay justice,” Alemao lamented.
He said that even the demand for political reservation for Scheduled Tribes is being tossed between the State and the Centre with no visible political will to pursue it meaningfully.
“And what makes matters worse is the track record of similar plans. Under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan, Rs 12 crore was allocated—yet not a single rupee was spent,” he said.
