PANAJI: Chief Minister of Goa Pramod Sawant underscored the need for a structured and scientific integration of traditional systems of medicine with modern healthcare frameworks, stating that such integration must be systematic, evidence-based and guided by rigorous scientific validation.
Dr. Sawant was speaking as the Guest of Honour at the valedictory function of the 3rd edition of the International Ayush Conference and Exhibition held in the United Arab Emirates. He stressed that preventive healthcare should become foundational rather than supplementary, calling for a global shift from reactive treatment models to proactive, wellness-oriented approaches.
Highlighting the significance of the venue, the Chief Minister said Dubai, as a global hub of innovation, commerce and cultural convergence, has provided an ideal platform for meaningful dialogue over the past three days. He noted that the depth of scientific discussions, quality research presentations, policy deliberations and cross-border collaborations reflected growing international confidence in AYUSH systems.
He asserted that the future of global healthcare lies in convergence — where traditional wisdom and modern medical science complement each other to deliver safe, affordable and sustainable healthcare solutions. He emphasised the need for international collaboration through shared knowledge, joint research, regulatory harmonisation and institutional partnerships to build resilient health systems.
Dr. Sawant observed that participation by experts, regulators, clinicians, industry leaders and wellness entrepreneurs from across continents demonstrates that AYUSH is increasingly recognised as a viable and evidence-based component of modern healthcare.
He also acknowledged that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, AYUSH has gained significant global recognition. From the internationalisation of Yoga to strengthening Ayurveda and other traditional systems, India has positioned integrative healthcare as a key pillar of its global health diplomacy, he said.
Reaffirming Goa’s commitment to holistic health and wellness, the Chief Minister stated that the State continues to align its healthcare and tourism strategies with the broader vision of promoting integrative medicine, wellness tourism and sustainable health practices.
Upon his arrival, Dr. Sawant was welcomed with a traditional Kunbi shawl by Dipak Bandekar, Director of the Department of Information & Publicity. He later visited the Goa stall at the exhibition, appreciating the eco-friendly design and unique presentation.
The Goa delegation included Allwyn X. Pereira, Information Officer; Dr. Minal Joshi, Deputy Director AYUSH, Directorate of Health Services; Dr. Sameer Sadekar, Senior Ayurvedic Physician at NGDH, Asilo Hospital, Mapusa; along with Dr. Dipali Shirwaikar and Dr. Shambhavi Gadgil, key stakeholders in Ayurvedic medicine.
The conference concluded with a renewed commitment among participating nations and institutions to strengthen research frameworks and expand access to integrative healthcare solutions worldwide.
