PANAJI/BICHOLIM: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has urged Goan youth to rethink their approach to employment, warning that relying on political contacts will not secure jobs. Speaking on the state of unemployment in Goa, he noted that while job vacancies exist, many young people focus only on government jobs, believing private sector roles lack security.
“We have to see whether unemployment is real or if it’s a matter of mindset. Youth should not expect jobs simply by meeting an MLA or the Chief Minister,” said Dr. Sawant.
Data from the employment exchange shows that 50% of registered unemployed are pursuing further education, 30% are already in private jobs but still listed as unemployed, and 20% are genuinely unemployed and unwilling to work.
Highlighting the success of the state’s apprenticeship program, Dr. Sawant noted that over 14,000 youth have gained valuable hands-on experience in various sectors. He emphasized the Government’s focus on building a self-reliant and dignified workforce, aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat. The CM encouraged youth to support this vision, stressing that sincerity in work and commitment to public service are the cornerstones of both State and National development.
He also reiterated the importance of Nari Shakti, Yuva Shakti, Kisan Shakti, and Garib Kalyan as the four foundational pillars of the Prime Minister’s roadmap for a developed India.
Dr. Sawant urged young Goans to attend job fairs and explore opportunities in both government and private sectors, emphasizing that changing the mindset around job security is key to addressing unemployment.
