PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and Governor of Goa extended warm greetings to the people on the occasion of India’s 79th Independence Day, paying homage to the sacrifices of the freedom fighters and calling for collective efforts towards building a developed and self-reliant nation.
In his message, Dr. Sawant said August 15, 1947 marked the country’s liberation from “centuries of cruel slavery under British rule” and urged citizens to uphold the values of diversity and unity. Highlighting Goa’s contributions over the last 63 years, he said the State is focused on inclusive growth, people-centric governance, and becoming Swayampurna in every sector in line with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
The Governor praised Goa’s steady progress in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and governance, noting achievements such as being declared fully literate, topping the State Food Safety Index for five consecutive years, and pioneering initiatives like rapid molecular testing for tuberculosis and the “100 Microsites Project” under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.
He also cited infrastructure milestones, including the commissioning of a unique cable-stayed bridge connecting Sada to Varunapuri and Goa International Airport, and lauded the state’s consistent fourth-place ranking in NITI Aayog’s Sustainable Development Goals Index.
Both leaders urged citizens to renew their pledge to work towards unity, prosperity, and the vision of a developed, inclusive India that fulfils the dreams of freedom fighters and meets the aspirations of the people and youth.
