PANAJI: On the momentous occasion of Goa’s 39th Statehood Day, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and the Governor of Goa extended their heartfelt greetings and warm wishes to the people of Goa, reflecting on the State’s historic journey and urging citizens to renew their commitment to Goa’s growth and prosperity.
In his address, Chief Minister Dr. Sawant recalled the significant milestone in Goa’s history—its liberation from Portuguese colonial rule in December 1961—and the subsequent achievement of Statehood after years of struggle and democratic efforts. “Goa was liberated from colonial rule in 1961. Achieving Statehood was a dream cherished by the people, fulfilled only after relentless efforts and sacrifice,” he said. “Statehood gave us a distinct identity and individuality as Goans.”
He further emphasized that Statehood was not merely an administrative achievement but a symbol of Goa’s unique cultural heritage and the collective spirit of its people. “On this historic day, we remember and honour the sacrifices made by countless leaders and citizens who fought for our freedom and worked tirelessly for our State’s progress,” Dr. Sawant said. He called upon all Goans to rededicate themselves to the vision of a ‘Swayampurna Goa’—a self-reliant, vibrant, and prosperous State—and to contribute actively towards its sustained development and progress.
Highlighting the importance of unity and collective responsibility, the Chief Minister urged citizens to preserve Goa’s rich traditions, protect its environment, and foster inclusive growth that benefits all sections of society. “Let us work together with pride, dedication, and commitment to take Goa to new heights while maintaining the essence of our unique Goan identity,” he concluded.
Echoing the Chief Minister’s sentiments, the Governor of Goa also addressed the people, underscoring the significance of Statehood in safeguarding Goa’s distinct cultural and social heritage. The Governor spoke about the State’s commitment to revitalizing traditional healing practices and promoting sustainable development that honors Goa’s environmental treasures.
On this special occasion, the Governor appealed to all citizens to unite in the spirit of patriotism and collective progress. “Let us rededicate ourselves to the vision of a developed Goa and a developed India. Through unity, hard work, and pride in our heritage, we can ensure a prosperous future for generations to come,” the Governor said.
Both the Chief Minister and the Governor emphasized the importance of remembering Goa’s freedom fighters and Statehood architects, acknowledging their invaluable contributions in shaping the State’s destiny. Their messages serve as a call to action for all Goans to uphold the values of democracy, inclusivity, and sustainable progress.
As Goa celebrates its 39th Statehood Day, the people are encouraged to reflect on their proud history, honor their legacy, and work collaboratively towards a future marked by prosperity, harmony, and self-reliance.
